Again make sure to include some of the image in the selection. You’ll see another progress bar, and then three new variations will appear above the previous ones. You can generate as many results as you like without losing the ones you had. In the Yakov Livshits Properties panel, you’ll find three variations of the AI-generated content to choose from. I turned Adobe’s new AI-powered Generative Fill tool on my Icelandic vacation photos, with both “legitimate” photo editing tasks and a few ridiculous prompts that resulted in nightmare fuel. Generative Fill is in beta now, and it’s based on Adobe’s Firefly image generator.

Expanding a picture with Photoshop Generative Fill ai

With the new layer selected, we’ll add a selection between the two photos, ensuring to include pixels from both images in the selection. Finally, click generative fill, then generate without adding a text prompt. Another cool feature of Photoshop AI’s generative fill is the ability to remove objects in your photos. Using Yakov Livshits AI, Photoshop will remove aspects of your image and fill it with surrounding pixels in the image. This may sound similar to the content-aware tool, but it goes way beyond that. We could only end our article by mentioning the subject of generative fill and the usage rights of the photos it creates. Until recently, Adobe made it clear that anything created with their AI programs are prohibited from commercial use. However, we’re pleased to report that you can now use any images created with Photoshop’s Generative Fill commercially. This is a huge step for generative AI, and bound to be a huge hit for Adobe. We thought it might be fun to share a few of our creations as we researched this article, as it shows some of the things you can do with Photoshop’s AI generative fill tool.

Adobe Photoshop’s AI generative fill feature

Once your selection is complete, activate Generative Fill by going to the “Edit” menu, selecting “Fill,” and choosing “Generative” from the options. A dialog box will appear, giving you further control over the process. Once the installation is complete, you will find the application under “Installed beta apps”. Launch the application to start using this version of Photoshop. Since the beta version of Generative Fill has been implemented into Adobe’s Photoshop Beta app, we can be assured this tool be available in Adobe Photoshop once the full version is released. Unlike most of Firefly’s previously released features, the Generative Fill tool has found itself as an integrated tool on the Photoshop Beta app.

From there, search for Photoshop in the Available in your plan section of the dashboard. The first thing to cover is that in order to use Photoshop’s generative fill system right now, you’ll need a Photoshop membership – whether that’s part of the Photography plan or a more expansive plan. Articificial intelligence is exploding at the moment, with more uses for it appearing on the market all the time, but plenty of them are actually quite hard to get your virtual hands on. With this release of Photoshop, you’ll have access to a generative AI model that is ethically sourced via Adobe Stock. Select an area in your image, then describe what you’d like to add. Before you proceed, ensure you’re connected to the internet, as Generative Fill requires cloud processing.

Generative Fill will change how you create digital art in Photoshop and other software. You can upload your own images to the Generative Fill tool, or you can use any of the provided sample images—on the Firefly browser—to play around and experiment with. As noted it’s not perfect but it’s powerful enough to hint at the future. AI is an extra tool if you want to produce images, but image production is not photography. That being said, as an amateur photographer I don’t think that this kind of functionality is truly essential in any shape or form because this ain’t photography anymore but creative image generation. Interesting technology, but I wish they would remove the violation guidelines. Me and my kids were just trying to have some fun and trying to simply add poop to a picture violated Adobe’s guidelines. To me artist expression / having fun should be whatever you want it to be (no matter the subject) , I don’t want the though police in my life.
